Hampton loses to Delaware State in four games

Hampton, Va. - After dropping the second game of the match, Delaware State rallied to post a four-game victory over the Hampton University volleyball team Friday night in Holland Hall. The Lady Pirates (7-17, 2-6 MEAC) won the second game by a score of 30-27, but the Lady Hornets (9-19, 5-5 MEAC) won the first game (30-22) and the last two games by scores of 30-24 and 30-25.
The Pirates played very well in the second game, going on a 4-0 run midway through the frame to take a 22-18 lead. Despite the Hornets scoring back-to-back points to close to within two points, HU scored four of the next five points to take a 26-21 lead before closing out the game.
The Hornets responded by jumping out to early leads during each of the next two games to record the victory.
Hampton’s Chavanca Hoskins (Dallas, Texas/Lincoln HS)led the Lady Pirates with 21 kills, with Ese Ighedsoa (Kansas City, Mo./ Center Senior HS) adding a career-high 15. Ebonie Vincent ((Temecula, Calif./ UC-Riverside) contributed to the offensive with 13 kills and two service aces. The blue and white defense was anchored by Alyssa Jackson’s (Fort Wayne, Ind./ Snider HS) game-high 17 digs.
Ayana Dyette led Delaware State with a match-high 26 kills, while teammate King Muszynski registered 18.
Hampton will return to the court Tuesday, October 31 when the Lady Pirates travel to Williamsburg, Va. to be hosted by William & Mary at 7 p.m.
